Do you know poker all too well or are you new to the game? Texas Hold’em is actually the most popular variant of the game of poker in the world. It has been played not only at casinos but also at bars, clubs, and even at home. It has become a favorite card game that people enjoy. So if you are new to the world of poker, perhaps you’d like to learn a thing or two about the game. Here’s a brief overview of the game plus the terminologies you need to know when playing Texas Hold’em Poker.
In a game of poker the players are dealt two cards also known as hole cards. Now, after the two cards are dealt to the players, there will be five community cards dealt in the middle of the table. They arrive in a specific sequence. The first three cards to be dealt are called the flop. The fourth one is called the turn. And lastly, the river is what we call the fifth street or the fifth card. So the objective of the game is to get the highest hand possible and then you try to make the rest of the players either fold or go all in if you’re sure you’ve got the best hand and you’ll win over them. A round of betting will ensue for each of the four rounds. The first round is before the flop, once the players see their two cards. The next round of betting happens after the flop has been shown. The third is after the turn, and the last is after the river is shown. Those are all the rounds of betting. When all the rounds are finished, the winner is determined by a showdown. The players joining the bet show their cards to see who has the best hand. Of course, if the rest of the players fold, then the remaining player wins the game.
Now that you’ve learned the poker terminologies such as the flop, river, turn, and showdown among others, it’s time to introduce you to the terms blinds and the button. These are the two constant things in the game of poker. You’ll see a disc placed in front of a player that we call the button. It simply shows who the dealer for that hand is. On the other hand, there are two blinds per round of poker. Blinds are simply forced bets where the players must bet the corresponding small or big blind, depending on which blind is placed in front of them.
